How we handle piano moving

An upright piano weighs between 150 and 300 kg, most of it in the cast-iron frame, and it’s top-heavy. That’s why people get hurt trying to move one with friends. We send enough people, use a piano dolly and stair-climbing straps, and pad the case so the finish and keys arrive as they left.

For baby grands we remove the legs and lyre, move the body on its side on a padded skid board, and rebuild it in position. We’ll always ask about steps, turns and doorways first so we arrive with the right number of people.

Pricing

What does it cost?

Pianos are priced individually because stairs and access make the biggest difference. Send a photo and a description of the access at both ends and we’ll give you a fixed price.

FAQ

Piano Moving questions

Will my piano need tuning after the move?

Usually yes, but not because of the move itself. Temperature and humidity changes affect tuning. Leave it two to three weeks to settle, then book a tuner.

Can you move a piano upstairs?

Yes, as long as the stairs and turns are wide enough. Send us photos and measurements and we’ll confirm.

Can a piano go in with a house move?

Yes. It’s the first thing loaded and the last off, and we add a person to the crew for it.
